Our Academics

PHILOSOPHY
At King’s Academy Christian School we believe that all children should be in an educational and nurturing environment, which provides a well-rounded academic program consistent with Biblical principles.

Literacy

King’s Academy uses Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys for grades K4-5th grades.  Journeys is a comprehensive, integrated curriculum that provides a solid research-based literacy program.  A variety of reading materials is used as a supplement to accommodate students’ needs and levels. 

Writing

The Write Source K5-8th grade curriculum, published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, supports Common Core writing standards.  It provides engaging lessons to help students master the writing process, key writing forms, Six Traits, grammar, usage, and mechanics.  

Mathematics

The school uses GO MATH as the core math curriculum. Go Math! is a comprehensive Grade K-8 mathematics program developed to support the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. The program emphasizes Essential Questions and Big Ideas with depth of understanding as the goal.  Interactive lessons utilize research based instructional approaches and differentiated instructional resources to ensure success for all students. 

Science

In K4 – 5th grades, the school use Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as the core science curriculum, which is theme-based and aligned with the reading series.  In grades 3rd – 8th the curriculum is a skilled-based program designed to help students understand essential scientific method.  

Geography

The school uses Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as the core social studies curriculum.  The curriculum focuses on building skills to help students demonstrate and understand the history of the world, political freedom, patriotism, character building and principles of human nature.  

Physical Education

The Physical Education/Health Curriculum teaches good health habits, physical fitness and good physical hygiene.  The goal is to help students become healthy and physically fit in mind, body, and spirit.

Fine Arts

Fine Arts is integrated throughout the curriculum which allows for literature and various cultural expressions.  Students are taught to develop an appreciation for art and music.  The goal is for students to develop a love for art and music which allows them to express themselves in a positive creative manner.

Technology

Technology is integrated in all curricula areas to prepare students for the 21st century. King’s Academy provides students with a state-of-the-art computer lab.  Students are able to enhance their reading skills and develop skills in word processing and research.  Students are also taught to navigate through various search engines.

Library/Multimedia Center

The library/multimedia center empowers students to be both critical thinkers and creative producers of messages using image, language, and sound.  It is utilized to not only support the curriculum but also to equip the students to think critically and express themselves through the media that defines them.
